Jeanne: Mr. Maximoff?
Pietro: Yes?
Jeanne: What are you doing?
Pietro: Watching “Downtown Abbey”. My sister enjoys it. I find it tedious.
Jeanne: You find everything tedious.
Pietro: This is true…You’re welcome to join me, if you like.— Remember this. For some these will be the best years of their lives. Yours will only get better.

Jeanne: On my mark, go!
Pietro: Finesse. Join your classmates.
Jeanne: Someone has to activate the self-destruct manually! it was meant—
Pietro: For Jocasta, who’d project her consciousness into another body in the second it takes for the mansion to blow up. But she’s not here. So I’ll do it.
Jeanne: I…after what I’ve done to you, I can’t let you die for me.
Pietro: Die? Perish the thought. One second is an eternity for me. Now be a good girl…mind your teacher. —Now!

Jeanne: I am not concerned about our enemy just now. Laura! You’re—
Laura: I—will be okay.

Jeanne: First we must restore Laura’s powers. She will not survive much longer.
Laura: I…am…fine.

Hank: Juston…I’m not the kind of man who says empty words just to make people feel better. So when I tell you this, I mean it. You didn’t lose a machine today. You lost your best friend. And I will never forgive myself for failing to stop it.
Pietro: Oh, spare me. I’m getting nauseated just listening to you all. Really, I had to do this for the sake of my own sanity.
Juston: I-is that…?
Pietro: Your sentinel’s central processing unit? Yes. Once I saw Emma levitating it, I switched it with a unit from one of our training robots. They’re quite similar. All faster than her eye could see, of course. And our defenses prevented her sensing my mind…remarkably, given the splitting headache your whining has given me.
Juston: You…you’re a mutant. You must hate sentinels. And you still…
Pietro: The heart wants what the heart wants, yours wants the sentinel…and mine wants quiet.
Juston: I don’t know how to thank you. Any of you.
Pietro: I do. keep your excessive displays of emotion to yourself—Ah. Oh, very well. I suppose I can stay a few moments longer.

Jeanne: LEAVE HIM ALONE!
Scott: What—?
Jeanne: He learned everything you taught him! Tried to be exactly what you wanted!
Magneto: Pietro? Do you know this…person?
Pietro: Don’t…DON’T YOU TOUCH HER! You poison everything you touch! Wanda! Me! I won’t let your corrupt her too!

Taskmaster: Yer gonna be fine, though. Yer a smart kid. This Avengers Academy thing…sweetest scam I ever saw. A cushy gig livin’ off Tony Stark’s cash…and when that goes sour, you got inside info worth a fortune to the right buyer. Bottom line, every day you’re gettin’ better. And that’s what life’s all about.Jeanne: Is it?Taskmaster: It is for us. Take care’a yerself kid.

Jocasta: I realize you feel deep mistrust toward what Jeremy and I are doing. With this, we hope to convince you you’re wrong. But if you prefer, think of it as being there to protect your friends, in the event we plan some betrayal. Unless you are otherwise occupied, of course.
Jeanne: No, Jocasta. We will be there. Since the Academy closed, Laura and I have been seeking other places we might feel at home. It has not gone well. We will see you soon.

Jeanne: …and that’s when he turned away. But he was talking about some big secret they’re keeping from us.
Ken:
What, you’re a lip reader?
Jeanne:
Since I was five. I’m a polymath, Mettle. I acquire skills and knowledge at an accelerated rate. I drink them in. I graduated M.I.T. at fourteen. I was in training for the Olympics when Osborn found me. I don’t make mistakes. And I know what I saw.
Brandon:
Well, there’s one way to find out what he meant. They’ll have files on us, right? Our “permanent records”? Everyone’s away tonight except Pym, and he’s locked in his lab making sweet love to test tubes. Let’s hack into the system.
Humberto: I’m sorry, did Macgyver join up and I missed it? This is the Avengers. They have security. Who here knows advanced computer programming and counter-espionage?

I actually found these panels pretty hilarious! Jeanne is just throwing people with ease~ I didn’t realize she had such strength!

I’ve been thinking, I don’t want you to teach me to be like him [Magneto] anymore… I want you to teach me to be like you.

Avengers Academy #22 by Christos Gage & Sean Chen

Okay, this was quite a sweet scene! And I think perhaps may be my personal favorite moment of the series. I just LOVE these two!

I’m also very happy that Jeanne’s fascination with Magneto is over, and no longer wants to be like him and instead she wants to be like Pietro who she’s formed a very strong bond with. This scene just makes me smile and it was a really great turning moment for them. Their student/mentor relationship has developed quite nicely, it’s come such a long way from when she initially blackmailed him. She’s really grown to admire and respect Pietro greatly and I think looks up to him more than she does with anyone else.

And this issue was another great step forward for Finesse. I think of the original students, she has grown the most in these twenty-two issues and in a positive way. We’re getting more emotional responses from her and she’s been connecting with others better. And we’re seeing she really does care for people (well some in particular), even though she doesn’t know how to show it well. She’s still pretty morally ambiguous and probably will remain that way, but I do think she has been looking quite heroic lately. She’s also no longer just objective with her thoughts and she’s now forming some subjective opinions. I’m just enjoying very much where Christos is taking her character.

Jeanne: Mr. Maximoff?
Pietro: Finesse. While I appreciate you coming to my defense today, it wasn’t necessary. And I’d prefer to be alone.
Jeanne: You’re father’s very intimidating.
Pietro: Yes.
Jeanne: You defied him. Stood up to him. When you were just a kid.
Pietro: It was Wanda who gave me the courage to do that. I knew I had to do better for us. For her.
Jeanne: I always did what my parents wanted. It didn’t change anything. Just made them want more.
Pietro: Your parents are criminals, like my father. It is best to put any thought of having a normal relationship with them out of your mind. To that extent that’s possible.

Avengers Academy #22 by Christos Gage & Sean Chen

I think not only has Jeanne found a mentor in Pietro, but a father figure as well. And from questioning her parentage, to tracking down Taskmaster, it always seemed to me like Jeanne felt she was lacking a role model and was looking for someone to fill that role. And Pietro has taken that spot for her. Christos noted in one of his interviews that their relationship was becoming even father/daughter like and I’ve definitely felt that. Early on she attached herself to Pietro and although their relationship was first a bit antagonistic y’know with her initially blackmailing him, they’ve both grown to really care for each other and as seen this issue, are extremely protective and loyal to one another. And I think consider each other family which I just love.

And I’m very happy that Pietro is close with someone because I can’t help but think how lonely he must feel. He’s divorced from Crystal who’s now remarried, his father is an ass to him to say the least, Wanda’s disappeared to whereever and Luna, his own daughter won’t speak to him. So Jeanne is like his closest thing to family right now. And it’s doesn’t seem like she’s had a good relationship with her parents either, they’re former criminals who used her to gain money and status, and just kept wanting more. But she looks up Pietro as someone who was able to break away from his father’s influence and create his own identity and she wants to do that too.

So yeah, I really like this pair. Every time they have a scene, I go on and on about how much I love their relationship. And I have more comments for page that’s after this.

Taskmaster: I wanted ta fight you ‘cause…I thought if I remembered your moves, I might remember you. But all your moves…are somebody else’s. Just like mine.

Jeanne: Are you done? I’ve been watching you, Jeremy. You’ve been planning this day since we met, haven’t you? I admit, human behavior often confuses me. but I thought it strange that you took such pains to hide the obvious romantic relationship between you and Kelly.
Brandon: The what now?
Jeanne:  In fact your micro-expressions often indicate deception. So I did some research. Discovered you’re financing her reality show.. all her publicity.
Jeremy: And that’s a problem? I admire her. And I like to help people.
Jeanne:  Yes. You helped Weston quite a bit. Paid his fellow students to befriend him. One of them to date him. So he’d seem happy for our visit. But school records indicate he’s severely depressed. Drinking excessively. Struggling badly with post-traumatic stress.
Jeremy: Wait, you think I did things for your benefit? Not to help him? Heh. Someone thinks the world revolves around her.
Jeanne: And someone else thinks they control it. I haven’t been able to find decisive proof of this, and I doubt I will. But there are traces. Money spent in the U.S. and Canada. Shell company payments to independent security contractors reinforced transport vehicles. You brought that Wendigo to Buffalo.
Humberto: Wh-what?
Jeanne: You’re using your power to manipulate everyone around you. If that’s not a villain, what is?

Laura: People tell me I must determine what I want. Irrespective of others. Then they seek to direct my actions.
Jeanne: Contradictory behavior. I find it off-putting.
Laura: As do I.
Jeanne: I have worked to expand my knowledge base, in hopes it would help me understand.
Laura: Has it?
Jeanne: No.
Laura: Again.
Jeanne: Yes.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE their training session so much! Jeanne/Laura are bonding some more and becoming girlfriends! And I think this scene really shows how they truly are able to understand each other on this whole different level where others cannot really. And though they’re very different characters, they’re similar in a lot of ways with how they deal with their own feelings and how they interact with others. And I think they’re kinda at the same point in their lives as well where they’re finally becoming their own person and learning to make decisions for themselves. And here Jeanne and Laura are connecting and I just LOVE it all! I need future Jeanne/Laura super team-ups because it would be the best!
